Zack Steffen is reportedly close to sealing a move from Manchester City
Jeremy Reper-USA TODAY Sports

Forgotten Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen is reportedly close to sealing a move away from the club. The American international spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship but now appears set for a move to the MLS.

Tom Bogert has reported for the Athletic that MLS side Colorado Rapids are in advanced talks with Manchester City for the goalkeeper’s services. Bogert adds that while a deal is not complete talks are progressing between the two clubs. Furthermore, it is reported that Steffen has missed the first half of this season as he recovers from knee surgery. His injury cost him any chance of a move in the last summer’s transfer window.

Zack Steffen was signed by Manchester City in December 2018. He joined the club from MLS side Columbus Crew. The American didn’t officially join the European champions until July 2019. He spent his first season at Manchester City on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf. Steffen made 18 appearances for the German club during his loan spell at the club.

His first season at Manchester City was the 20/21 season. The American international made 12 appearances for the treble winners during the season. The majority of his appearances were in the FA and Carabao Cup as he was the backup to Ederson. Steffen was also at the club for the 21/22 campaign. He only made 9 appearances during the 21/22 campaign.

Steffen spent all of last season on loan at Championship club Middlesbrough. He was their number-one keeper as the Teesiders made it to the Playoffs of the Championship. Steffen and his side would fall short of promotion as they lost on aggregate to Coventry City in the Playoff semi-final.

With Ederson and Stefan Ortega ahead of Zack Steffen in the City goal, a move would be best for all parties.
