Chiefs’ Andy Reid Provides Surprising Thoughts On Kadarius Toney
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney has not exactly endeared himself to Chiefs fans, but head coach Andy Reid still has hope for him.

While speaking about Toney this week, Reid was very complimentary of him.

“He’s arguably one of the most talented guys we have on the team,” Reid said, via Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports. “It’s just a matter of him being able to stay healthy and stay on the field. … It’s great that he’s down there working with Pat [Mahomes] and putting the work in.”

Kansas City initially acquired Toney in a trade with the New York Giants back in October 2022. In seven games with the Chiefs that season, he logged 14 catches for 171 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

This past season, Toney appeared in 13 contests, catching 27 passes for 169 yards and a score.

There is no doubt that Toney is immensely talented, as Reid noted. However, dropped passes and consistent mental errors have severely limited his effectiveness.

Toney, who played his collegiate football at the University of Florida, was selected by the Giants with the 20th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The 25-year-old showed significant promise when he was on the field during his rookie campaign, hauling in 39 receptions for 420 yards in 10 games.

However, Toney had difficulty staying healthy in New York, and his behavior wore thin on the organization, leading to the Giants sending him to the Chiefs.

Kansas City may end up needing some more help at the wide receiver position next season given the current situation with Rashee Rice, so hopefully for Andy Reid and Co., Kadarius Toney can finally deliver on a consistent basis.
