Browns have met with an unheralded defender they could look to land in the NFL Draft
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

We’re just over two weeks until the 2024 NFL Draft and it is obvious what the Cleveland Browns would like to do in the second round.

With no first-round pick, the Browns need to hit on their second-round pick. Cleveland could go multiple ways with this pick because offensive tackle, wide receiver, defensive tackle, and even linebacker all make sense.

It is now known that Cleveland has visited with a UCLA edge rusher. While Laiatu Latu is the guy who will go in the first round from the Bruins, his teammate Gabriel Murphy is an intriguing prospect himself and one the Browns have met with.

Murphy started his career as a linebacker at North Texas and had 12 sacks between the two seasons that he played for them. Following that, Murphy transferred to UCLA and made 38 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 2022.

It was last season when Murphy turned it on by recording eight sacks and 16 tackles for a loss. The UCLA product measures in at 6-foot-2 and 247 pounds. An impressive 4.68 40-yard dash and 39.5-inch vertical show the kind of athlete that he is.

Murphy is an athletic pass rusher who uses speed and a high motor to win. His go-to pass rush move is the swim move that often shows up on tape. His size can hurt him in the run game and there are times when he is stuck in his tracks on a rush.

Cleveland continues to bring in meet with some intriguing prospects that would be an ideal addition to their football team. Last draft it was Isaiah McGuire who they drafted out of Missouri, we’ll see what they do at end this time if they decide to select one.
