‘Bold’ Trade Proposal Sends Mikal Bridges To Warriors, Andrew Wiggins And Jonathan Kuminga To Nets

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Nets and Warriors: 

Golden State Warriors Receive: F Mikal Bridges, PG Dennis Schröder

Brooklyn Nets Receive: F Jonathan Kuminga, F Andrew Wiggins, 2025 first-round pick, 2026 and 2028 second-round picks (via Atlanta Hawks)

Both the Warriors and Nets missed the playoffs this year. 

“Golden State owes it to Stephen Curry to pursue more win-now talent this offseason while trying to get off the remainder of Wiggins’ contract,” Swartz wrote. “Bridges is among the most reliable players in the NBA, which would be an important factor for a Warriors team planning to keep Draymond Green. The 27-year-old still hasn’t missed a game in his six seasons and averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.0 steals this year while shooting 37.2 percent from deep.

“Bridges would be an upgrade over both Wiggins and Kuminga on both sides of the ball, and he’s making less than $25 million in each of the next two seasons. Meanwhile, Schröder (14.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 37.5 percent from three) would become the new backup point guard behind Curry, since Chris Paul will almost certainly not return for financial reasons.”

Bridges averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists for the Nets this season while shooting 43.6% from the field, 37.2% from beyond the arc and 81.4% from the free-throw line. He’ll make $23.3 million next season. 

“The Nets are in a weird spot right now since they owe so many of their own future picks to the Houston Rockets from the James Harden trade,” Swartz wrote. “But with this deal, they’d get a combination of veteran talent in Wiggins, a high-upside prospect in the 21-year-old Kuminga and a package of draft picks, including an unprotected first-rounder next summer.”

Wiggins averaged 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists this season for the Warriors while shooting 45.3% from the field, 35.8% from beyond the arc and 75.1% from the free-throw line. The NBA champion will make $26.3 million next season. 

Meanwhile, Kuminga averaged 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 2023-24 while shooting 52.9% from the field, 32.1% from 3 and 74.6% from the free-throw line. He’ll make $7.6 million in 2024-25. 

The Warriors won the 2022 NBA championship. However, they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 2023 playoffs and missed the playoffs this year for the first time since 2021.
