Alabama lost one of its promising defensive linemen on Tuesday as former four-star recruit Khurtiss Perry entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Shortly following the news, Perry released a statement on his decision to test the waters elsewhere.

“After spending some time at The University of Alabama, playing for Coach Saban and alongside my incredible teammates, I’ve made the difficult decision to enter the transfer portal,” Perry said in his statement released by A&P Sports Agency. “My time at Alabama has been an unforgettable journey, filled with growth, challenges, and countless memories that I will cherish forever. I am forever thankful and blessed to have had the opportunity to wear the crimson and white, representing not just a team, but a passionate fanbase and a tradition of excellence.

“While my time at Alabama has been nothing short of amazing, I believe that exploring new opportunities through the transfer portal is the next step in my journey as a student-athlete. This decision wasn’t made lightly; it’s a step towards achieving my ultimate goals and aspirations in football. I’m excited about the prospect of finding a new program where I can continue to develop as a player and contribute to a new team’s success.

“However, leaving Alabama doesn’t mean severing ties with Bama nation. The support I’ve received from fans, alumni, and the entire community has been incredible, and I’ll carry that with me wherever I go. My love for Alabama and its football program will endure forever, and I’ll always be grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had as a member of the Crimson Tide family. Roll Tide!”

Perry appeared in one game last season after redshirting in 2022. He is also the first Crimson Tide scholarship player to leave the team following spring football.
